New Delhi, the capital of India, is also the focal tarvel and holiday capital of the northern part of the country. New Delhi provides an excellent base for visiting Agra and Taj Mahal and the exotic locales of Rajasthan which are just a few hours of travel time from the city. If you're heading north towards the Himalayas or east to the ghats of Varanasi, you'll will have to travel through New Delhi.
Visiting New Delhi is an adventure of unwinding the secrets of its Mughal past in the labyrinthine streets before emerging in the wide open spaces of imperial New Delhi, with its ordered governmental vistas and generous leafy avenues
Modern Delhi or New Delhi as it is called, is a monument to British Imperial ambitions. It centers around Rashtrapati Bhawan, an architectural splendour standing at a height, flowing down as it were to India Gate. This stretch called the Rajpath is where the Republic Day parade is held. The imposing plan of this area conceived by Edward Lutyens, does not fade in its charm with the numerous summers or winters that go past.

Travel Attractions

Holiday in New Delhi to experience the Myriads of attractions it has to offer.

Chandini Chowk

Thee living legacy of Delhi is Shahjahanabad. Created by Shahjahan, the builder of Taj Mahal, this city, with the Red Fort as the focal point and Jama Masjid as the praying center, has a fascinating market planned to shine under the light of the moon and thus is called Chandini Chowk. Even today it remains Asia's largest wholesale market. Crafts, once patronized by the Mughals continue to flourish in the small lanes of the city known as Shahjahanabad. Tradition and modernity meet here and if you see a man pulling a rickshaw or feeding pigeons, you will see just as many talking over the cello or assembling a computer! An experience of timelessness awaits you at Chandini Chowk.

Connaught Place

Contrasting Chandini Chowk is Connaught Place, the hub of Delhi where you'll find most of the airline offices, travel agents and banks. The imposing facade encapsulates the spirit of British sovereignty in marble, stone and architecture.

Humayun's Tomb

Built in the mid-16th century by the wife of the second Mughal emperor, this is the first important example of Mughal architecture in India. It's also one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and is a prelude to the magnificent Mughal Architecture. Adding to the beauty are the formal gardens lending a serenity of silence to the structure.

Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid - Holiday in Delhi Built in 1644, the great mosque of Delhi is the largest in India and was the last in the series of architectural indulgences of Shah Jahan, the Moghul emperor who also built the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort. The highly decorative mosque has three great gateways, four towers and two 40m (135ft) high minarets constructed of strips of red sandstone and white marble.

Qutub Minar

The symbol of the power of the Moghuls in India, it was built with material obtained from demolishing 27 idolatrous (read Hindu) temples. A 7m (23ft) high iron pillar stands in the courtyard of the mosque and it's said that if you can encircle it with your hands whilst standing with your back to it, your wish will be fulfilled; however, the pillar is now protected by a fence.

Red Fort

The red sandstone walls of the massive Red Fort (Lal Qila) rise 33m (108ft) above the clamour of 'Old' Delhi is another reminder of the magnificent power and pomp of the Moghul emperors. The walls, built in 1638, may have been designed to keep out invaders, but today they mainly keep out the noise and confusion of the city, making the fort and its gardens and pavilions a peaceful haven from the surrounding chaos.
