How To Get There

Delhi is an important rail centre and New Delhi Railway Station is an easy place to make bookings. Useful long-distance trains head east across the Ganges Plain to Kolkata via Varanasi, and south to Mumbai (Bombay) via Agra.
The main bus station is the Interstate Bus Terminal at Kashmiri Gate, north of the 'Old' Delhi Railway Station.

Public transport system in the form of DTC buses is an excellent and cheap mode of transport. Then there are plenty of metered yellow-and-black taxis. Auto-rickshaws are faster and cheaper options for short routes. You can also experience the charms of traveling on the cycle-rickshaw.

The magic of being far from the madding crowd can be felt in the moonlit Taj Mahes located in Ara, 203 km from Delhi.Built by emperor Shahjahan in honor of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal took over 21 years to complete and is one of the most perfect pieces of architecture in the world with incredible symmetry and craftsmanship in every inch.
Thirty-seven km from Agra is the town of Fatehpur Sikri, supposedly built on the site where the saint Salim Chisti foretold the birth of Emperor Akbar's son.The royal apartments are worth a visit as they represent an aesthetic fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture and contain many unique structures-the five-storied Panch Mahal, the Pachisi court where Emperor Akbar used to play chess with slave girls as the pieces.
Mathura,the holy city of the Hindus situated on the banks of the river Yamuna, is145 km away from Delhi. The birthplace of Lord Krishna, the city's museum has one of the best collections of inscriptions and sculptures. A few kilometers from Mathura is the temple town of Brindavan-spend a weekend getting to know the spiritual side of India in these two places
