Golden Temple - spiritual and cultural centre of Sikhism
Amritsar derives its name from Amrit Sarovar which was built by Guru Ram Das. The city is the heart and soul of the Sikhs and the largest spiritual and cultural centre of Sikh religion. The place is also famous for its Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Amritsari cuisine and its proximity to Wagah Border. Every evening, a ceremony known as beating retreat is held in wagha border which is a show of strength of both the India and Pakistan soldiers.
